Born at the cusp of Garlemald's rule over Doma, Oki was raised in a small mountain village hidden away from the oppressive Imperial regime. Like most other Doman Raen, her mother worked quietly as a retainer, allowed to reside within this village in exchange for her service; the smuggling of external goods that could not be crafted by the otherwise self-sustaining and secret group. When of appropriate age, Oki was made to join her mother in this humble task of taking various wares into the hidden village, bartering both with Doma's street vendors and its coyotes; her mother offering her knowledge of methodologies to remain entirely unnoticed or otherwise how and when to be seen.

It was during one such errand into the city that Oki, at 22 years old, would mistakenly happen upon a quiet, secretive gathering; a Xaela, Tekra Averotich, and her charge of three Midlander merchants who were looking to take their exotic wares and start a new life far away from Imperial rule. Oki soon found herself perhaps a tad unwittingly involved, though agreed to aid this small group in crossing the Ruby Sea alongside Tekra, ensuring the safety of them and their goods. A Coyote was paid and arrangements for their transport made. Oki left quietly, with no proper words of parting to her mother or village. Over the course of their journey one of the merchants, a man named Shiraki Haru, took on a fixation for the Raen and offered to extend her contract, eager to bring her with him and establish a living in La Noscea.

They landed and as planned, would first establish themselves in Limsa Lominsa. However, in time Gil ran short, as did Shiraki's supplies, the man made and dealt only in Doma's highly sought-after parchments and so he failed to root himself without proper means of importing materials. They took foot again, traveling and working any number of odd jobs, many which Oki was loathed to perform. Finally, although to a lack of Oki's knowledge, her charge found a somewhat reliable financial hook in Thanalan. He involved himself quietly with transport and trade of Somnus, a choice which would end poorly for the now murdered merchant and by proxy, an unsuspecting, absolutely unprepared Oki.
